Fly with Belavia

Belavia airplanes are deadly!

How are Belarusian aviation and the national company Belavia doing under the third year of sanctions?

Our colleagues talked to competent sources in the country and learned about facts unknown to the public, which we will share with you in this BYPOL investigation.

How air piracy and the landing of a RyanAir plane with Protasiewicz on board put an entire industry on hold. Why flying to Egypt is possible, while evacuation of Belarusian citizens from Israel has become a real problem. What danger the Belavia management and Belarusian officials expose passengers and crew to every day.

On May 23, 2021, when a Ryanair airline plane was flying from Athens to Vilnius, Belarusian air traffic controllers received a message that there was a bomb on board. Fighter jets of the Belarusian Air Force and Air Defense Forces were brought into the sky to escort the civilian airliner. The plane landed in Minsk, and the authorities detained blogger Roman Protasevich and Sofia Sapieha at the airport. This triggered an instant reaction from the European Union. Brussels stopped air traffic with Belarus and imposed sanctions against Belavia and Belaeronavigatsia. Ryanair CEO Michael O’Leary called the case “state-sponsored piracy.”
